Leider macht das spiegelnde Display die Nutzung an der frischen Luft nicht einfacher. ( battery HP Compaq 8510W ) Man muss schon aufpassen wie man sich positioniert. Mit der Sonne im Rücken sind die Spiegelungen so stark, dass man nichts mehr auf dem Display erkennen kann. Im Schatten kann man mit dem Notebook aber noch einiger Maßen arbeiten.

Das Touchpad ist mit einer Diagonalen von 95 ( hp 8730p battery ) Millimetern ausreichend groß dimensioniert worden. Multitouch darf dabei natürlich nicht fehlen und ist mit an Bord. Ebenso hat es ein vertikaler Scrollbalken mit auf das Touchpad geschafft. Dieser ist aufgrund einer physischen Markierung leicht auszumachen. Bei uns im Test hat sowohl das Touchpad, als auch der vertikale Scrollbalken gut funktioniert. Beim PCMark Vantage Benchmark liegt das Packard Bell EasyNote TS11 gerade noch im oberen Drittel bei den Einträgen in unserer Datenbank. Mit einer Gesamtwertung von 3797 Punkten liegt es gerade so über dem Schenker MG7.c( vgp-bps13b/s Battery ) (Intel 520M, ATI HD 5730). Andere Notebooks mit einer ähnlichen Ausstattung wie der des EasyNote TS11 liegen allerdings höher in unserem Ranking. (dell vostro 1400 battery ) Wir vergleichen den AMD E-350 (2 x 1.6 GHz) mit Intels Atom Dual-Core-Prozessoren, die ebenso auf Mobilität abzielen. Parallel ausgeführte Multitasking-Operationen können wie beim Atom N550 auf zwei Kernen rechnen. Im Multi-Core Benchmark Cinebench R10 32Bit schafft das G575 2.022 Punkte. Ein Atom N550 schafft nur 1.463 Punkte. Der N550 ist also durchschnittlich 30% langsamer. Die kleine Schwester AMD Fusion C-50 (Toshiba NB550D) kann hier nicht mehr mithalten, sie steht mit 1.271 Punkten im Cinebench R10 Multi 32Bit zirka 40 Prozent langsamer da. ( Dell Laptop Battery )

Bei Single-Core Rechnungen (Cinebench R10 Single 64Bit) erreicht der E-350 nur 1.154 Punkte. Gegen den höher taktenden Pentium P6100 (2.584) haben die 1.6 GHz keine Chance. Wohl aber gegen den Atom N550,( Latitude D620 Battery ) der gerade mal 512 Punkte erreicht. Die AMD Fusion APU C-50 (kein 64 Bit Test) schafft im Single-Core Benchmark nur 634 Punkte.

Der PC Mark Vantage prüft alle Komponenten des Computers, inklusive dem DDR3-RAM, der Festplatte und der HD 6310. 2.193 Punkte sind das knappe Resultat. Hier liegen Notebook-Festplatten mit 5.400 rpm in der Regel mit 60 bis 70 MB/s gleichauf.(Sony VGP-BPS13B/B battery ) Die HDD ist im Betrieb nur durch Auflegen des Ohres durch ein leises Rauschen zu hören.

Display

Das nicht entspiegelte Panel (Typ LP156WH4-TLA1)( Battery Compaq 8510P ) löst mit 1.366 x 768 Bildpunkten auf. Die Pixelaufteilung kommt dem Seitenverhältnis 16:9 sehr nahe. Das LG-Philips-Panel ist in vielen Belangen schwach, was aber in der günstigen Office-Klasse Standard ist. Es beginnt mit dem geringen Kontrast von 154:1. Das Glare-Type-Panel bessert die Farbwahrnehmung optisch etwas auf, ( battery dell vostro 1520 ) die Messung verändert das aber nicht.

Der Office-Fan hätte sich eine matte Anzeige gewünscht. Für Profis ist das Panel zusätzlich wegen des kleinen Farbraumes inakzeptabel. Die Hintergrundbeleuchtung verteilt die( hp 8730p battery ) Helligkeit sehr gleichmäßig über das Panel (90%).(hp probook 4510s battery ) Das heißt, die Abweichungen der LED-Hintergrundbeleuchtung sind sehr gering, es sind auf den Flächen keine Hell/Dunkel-Flecken erkennbar. Insgesamt ist die Luminanz mit durchschnittlich 225 cd/m² recht gut.

Die Anzeige des G575 ist für den( hp probook 4710s battery ) Außengebrauch ungeeignet. Die Luminanz reicht zwar in der Theorie auch für Draußen - aber nur sofern es bewölkt ist oder der Laptop im Schatten steht. Die störende Reflexionen auf Grund des Glare-Type-TFTs machen dem Sonnenanbeter nämlich einen Strich durch die Rechnung.

User Interface and Features

Buffalo’s web-based interface is a model of simplicity. Along the left side is a menu that lets you view the drive by content type (Movies, Music, and Photos), or by when it was uploaded to the drive. Content is arranged by the date it was created, but a search box at the top lets you find content by name.(HP Compaq 8510W Battery)

As you upload content to the drive, it automatically creates thumbnails of each file, so it’s easy to see what they are at a glance. Even better, if you mouse over a video, it will start playing in its window. At the bottom of each thumbnail are icons that let you preview, download, delete, or share the file. All of this makes navigating the drive so easy that we hardly used the desktop app again. Although Iomega’s web-based interface also creates thumbnails, its more traditional file-tree organization feels less friendly.(HP Compaq 8510P Battery)

It’s easy to share files, too; simply click the green Share icon at the bottom of a file or folder, and enter the e-mail addresses of those you’d like to share the file(s) with; you can even publish the files to Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.(HP ProBook 6545B Battery)

The CloudStor has some other neat features, including the ability to create slideshows by dragging and dropping photos or videos, and even setting them to music. As with individual files, you can then share the slideshow with others by entering their e-mail addresses. Design

Measuring 8.1 x 5.1 x 3.4 inches, the CloudStor is about twice as thick as the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive, but that’s because the Buffalo device can accommodate two 3.5-inch drives. Ours came with a single 2TB drive, but the front face removes easily if you want to add a second one. As befitting a device that’s designed to blend in with the rest of your tech, the CloudStor is all black, with three small blue status lights on the front.(hp elitebook 8740w battery)

Around back is a power plug, Ethernet port, and a USB 2.0 port should you want to add another external drive, or network a printer.

Apps

All of this combines to make one of the most user-friendly NAS drives out there, but Buffalo goes one step further with its free mobile app (for Android, BlackBerry, iOS, and webOS). Just be sure to download the PogoPlug app, not the Buffalo WebAccess app. We used the iPad app for our testing.(hp elitebook 8540p battery)

Once we signed into the PogoPlug app on our iPad, we browsed our movies, music, and photos just as we could on our desktop. We did encounter a few glitches, though. We couldn’t view the slideshow we’d created via the app, and when we would open the Settings menu, we couldn’t close it, no matter what button we pressed. We had to relaunch the app to close the menu.(toshiba pa3356u-1bas battery)

Leaving the recent defective Sandy bridge issues behind, Intel is reportedly nearing shipping of the new generation Sandy bridges that are supposed to utilize significantly lower voltage than their larger counterparts. The first of these processors should be the Core i7 2657M, that runs on a clock speed of only 1.6GHz but can achieve up to 2.7GHz (2.4 GHz with both cores loaded) thanks to the Turbo boost technology. This, along with the somewhat slower 1.4GHz Core i5 2537M should start shipping in the spring of this year, and in all possibilities, Intel might target this year’s Computex happening at Taipei from May 31st. Even with the growing number of tablet manufacturers this year, none are apparently putting up as good of a fight so far compared to Apple’s latest iPad according to a recent review from Consumer Reports.

The well-respected monthly American magazine has tested and ranked currently available tablets on 17 different criteria, and the iPad 2 was the clear winner. “Apple is leading the tablet market in both quality and price, which is unusual for a company whose products are usually premium-priced,” said Consumer Reports editor Paul Reynolds. This claim indicates a very important position that Apple holds in the tablet market, as the iPad 2 can be bought brand new and contract-free for under $500, much lower than many other high-end tablets. This low price has also recently intimidated Samsung and its upcoming 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab. In addition, its graphics performance is unmatched when compared to tablets with Nvidia’s Tegra 2 APU. Dell is about to add a new addition to its line of Streak tablets for a fall release.

First mentioned in a briefing back in February, the 10-inch Windows 7 tablet should be appearing sometime this September at the earliest, according to sources from Forbes. But since other companies such as HP and Asus have already released Windows 7 tablets, Dell may be deciding to introduce a Windows 7 tablet of its own as well. Current Streak models ship only with Android OS, so the new 10-inch tablet this fall would be Dell’s first to run Windows.(VGP-BPS13AS)

Forbes was also tipped with another 10-inch tablet coming from Dell for the summer, this time expected to run Android if released. Whether or not the tablet would be part of the Streak lineup is currently unknown, as the source claims the tablet is considered “unbranded” for now.(VGP-BPS13/S)

Further specifications for the tablets are still up in the air, but we expect more information directly from Dell about its potential tablets shortly, especially with summer coming soon.

It’s been close to 3 weeks since we last heard about the Alienware M14x and M18x, but thanks to a recent review by Chinese tech-website zol.com, the M14x picture has gotten a lot clearer. According to the first part of the review, the M14x appears to have received the same Sandy Bridge upgrades as its M11x and the M17x counterparts and will also come with NVIDIA graphics. Unfortunately, there is now word about the 18" Alienware laptop yet.(Akku HP Compaq 8710P)

Dell’s Alienware laptops have usually offered top of the line performance and the M14x looks to be the same. According to the review, the laptop will be powered by a Sandy Bridge Core i7-2820QM processor, an NVIDIA GT555M GPU, and up to a 750GB 7200RPM hard drive. The 14” laptop will come with a 1366×768 pixel resolution display and 2GB of RAM but can be upgraded to feature a Full HD (1920×1080 pixel) display and 4GB of RAM. For those looking to further upgrade their laptop, it should be customizable with another 2 solid-state drives to increase storage and performance.(Akku HP Compaq 8510W)

Of course, no Alienware laptop is complete without neon lighting for the keyboard and speakers, and the M14x doesn’t appear to have been spared. The notebook should be available in Red and Black Nebula colors and will also have Klipsch speakers similar to the M17x.(Akku HP Compaq 8510P)

For those that may find the M11x too small and the M17x too big, Dell should be providing an alternative option in the M14x. New study shows frustration amongst developers over Android fragmentation

A Q1 2011 study conducted by Baird venture capitalist William Powers surveyed 250 active app developers on their general experiences with the Android and iOS platforms. In short, 86% of respondents found the fragmentation of Google’s Android to be anywhere between somewhat problematic and extremely problematic.(Akku HP Pavilion DM4)

According to Powers, iOS is the preferred platform for app development due to its ease of development, recognition, unified App Store, and profitability.

The Android fragmentation means developers must take into account the myriad of Android-equipped devices in the market, and what these devices are and are not capable of. Optimizing apps for the different processors, available RAM, screen sizes, and graphics chips are all additional challenges that developers face when programming Android apps. This is in comparison to the ease of developing for the Apple iOS, where much fewer types of devices are involved.(Akku HP Pavilion DM4T)

Additionally, some Android apps just cannot run on certain devices if those models are unable to update to higher versions. Even though Android commands a large percentage of the mobile market, Over 30% of those users are still using Android 2.1 or lower as of April 1 2011, according to Android.com. Several game developers have also been concerned over Android’s inconsistency when deciding on which platforms to develop for. Infinity Blade, for example, appears on Apple’s App Store but is currently nowhere to be found on Android for a reason. “When a consumer gets the phone and they wanna play a game that uses our technology, it’s got to be a consistent experience, and we can’t guarantee that [on Android],” said Epic Games programmer Tim Sweeney in a Gizmodo interview.(Akku HP CQ42 )

Google has so far been attempting to reduce further Android fragmentation levels by withholding the source code for Android 3.0. Design

Measuring 11.5 x 2.8 x 2 inches and weighing 1.4 pounds, the Visioneer Mobility scanner is slightly smaller than the Visioneer Strobe 500 (11.7 x 2.8 x 3.3, 2.2 pounds), but it lacks the bulky docking station of the latter. The Mobility’s length means it won’t fit in any but the largest of handbags, but it will easily slip into a backpack or any piece of carry-on luggage.(HP Compaq 8510P Battery)

We like the sleek but simple design of the Mobility. The top is a glossy white plastic, while the underside is matte black. Combined with its long and thin dimensions, the black-and-white color scheme lends the portable scanner a fashionable, if not high-end, look. Some might not like that the Visioneer logo and the product name are located in the center of the scanner’s lid.(HP ProBook 6545B Battery)

The Visioneer Mobility has two buttons: one for powering the device on and off, and one for toggling between the scanner’s three modes. Both buttons are located on the Mobility’s glossy white top. Around back are an SD card slot, a miniUSB port, and a USB port. Visioneer includes a 2GB SD card with the scanner. While this is helpful, frequent scanners will need to invest in more storage space.(hp elitebook 8740w battery)

Performance

The Mobility scans items between 2 x 2 inches and 8.5 x 11.7 inches. The scanner offers three output modes: black and white or color PDFs at 300 dpi, or color JPEGs at 300 dpi. By comparison, the Visioneer Strobe 500 can output scans to BMP, JPG, PDF, sPDF, and TIFF formats. The Mobility scanner can only take one sheet of paper at a time, which means scanning longer documents could be an ordeal. There’s also no duplexer, so double-sided pages will need to be scanned twice. Visioneer says the Mobility can scan approximately 300 color 8.2 x 11.7-inch pages per battery charge.(hp elitebook 8540p battery)

In our hands-on time with the Mobility, it operated smoothly. It took 8 seconds to scan a 8.5 x 11 document and 9.5 seconds to scan an 8.5 x 11 color photo. Scanning a business card took just 6 seconds, which is on a par with the Strobe 500, and the scanner had no trouble detecting items of any size.(toshiba pa3356u-1brs battery)

Quality varied depending on the document scanned. Black-and-white text pages came out accurately. A color PDF scan of the Visioneer instruction manual had slightly muted, bluer tones than the original, but offered plenty of detail. Our scanned business card contained the correct colors, though we noticed some streaking. Scanning images in black and white was another story: A color image of a car on a highway was almost impossible to make out, as the scanned copy came out mostly black. Scanning this same picture in color gave us much better results; the image was much more detailed, though the colors appeared slightly washed out.(toshiba pa3356u-1bas battery)

Verdict

The $199 Visioneer Mobility scanner lives up to its name: At 1.4 pounds, it can fit in your carry-on to serve all your on-the-go scanning needs. Moreover, the Mobility is extremely easy to use, with no software required and only three modes to choose from. Those who need to scan full-size photos or longer documents will be better served by the Visioneer Strobe 500 ($349), which includes a duplexer and an optional dock with a paper feed. But for those on the go who just want a hard copy of simple items such as a business card, receipt, or magazine article, the Mobility is a great choice.(hp presario cq72 battery)

Verdict

The $79 Duracell myGrid Charging Pad conveniently eliminates the clutter of having multiple chargers, but between the complicated setup Akku Vostro 1520 and long charge time, serious gadget freaks won’t be all that impressed.

Performance

On our tests, the myGrid Charging Pad took a long 5 hours Akku Vostro 1400 and 37 minutes to fully charge our completely drained HTC Evo Shift 4G. By contrast, we were able to do the same in a much shorter 3:38 using the phone’s standard HTC AC adapter
(from the same power outlet), and just 2:30 using the Powermat

Design

The myGrid Charging Pad from Duracell is essentially an ultra-thin square metal plate with a black cylinder running along one edge. At the base of the cylinder is the power cord, which plugs into an outlet. Meant primarily for desk duty, the entire setup measures 8.5 x 6.8 x 0.8 inches and weighs 4 ounces. Still, it’s not unreasonable to take the myGrid Charging Pad along on trips, considering it can charge up to four devices at once–sans wires.(Akku HP Pavilion DM4 )

Setting up phones to charge, however, is a little tricky. The Charging Pad comes with five different charging tips, two miniUSB and two microUSB (each set of opposing orientation), plus one proprietary Nokia connector. Tips are inserted into phone ports, to which is attached an arm that clips to the back of handsets using adhesive. Once connected, metal studs on the clip’s opposite side make contact with the Charging Pad’s metallic surface, creating a circuit.(Akku HP Pavilion DM4T)

It’s not exactly an elegant arrangement, and the bulky clip detracts from a phone’s otherwise sleek design. That said, clips can be placed anywhere there’s room on the Charging Pad, and a magnetic clank along with a blue indicator light definitively lets you know you’re charging. The Charging Pad comes with just one clip, but a Power Clip and Connector kit (holding one clip) retails for $34.99.(Akku HP CQ42 )

Heat

Maybe it’s because of the new processor, but the R835 doesn’t get as warm as its predecessor. After playing Hulu at full screen for 15 minutes, the touchpad registered 86 degrees, the area between the G and H keys reached 88 degrees, and the bottom of the underside measured 96 degrees. The R700 was about as cool on top but reached 103 degrees on the bottom. The only spot where the R835 got slightly uncomfortable on our lap was the bottom-left side near the vent, which registered 102 after our Hulu test.(Akku thinkpad T60)

Ports

You\’ll find the few ports on the Series 9 along the edges, rolled up into little pull-down drawers so as not to mar the elegant lines. Pull down the left drawer to access a Gigabit Ethernet port (an adapter is included), mini HDMI, hp elitebook 8740w battery and (chargeable) USB 3.0 port. Pull down the right side drawer for a combo headphone/mic jack, USB 2.0 port, and a microSD card slot. (We\’d prefer a full-size one.) The curve on the back edges house the power jack on the left and a lock slot on the right.

Touchpad

The touchpad on the 13-inch Series 9 is just a bit smaller than the MacBook Air\’s (3.9 x 2.7 vs. 4.3 x 3 inches) but it offers a smooth, matte surface free of friction. It\’s one of the closest in both feel hp elitebook 8540p battery and functionality to Apple\’s touchpads, but it does have some drawbacks.

But if you use one hand to navigate you won\’t have this problem.

The gestures available on the 13-inch Series 9 go beyond the standard two-finger scroll toshiba pa3356u-1brs battery and pinch/zoom found on many Windows notebooks. There\’s a three-finger flick for navigating within apps such as the photo viewer and browser. The four-finger gestures further attempt to mimic Mac OS X functionality: Swipe down to minimize everything and view the desktop and swipe up to activate the Aero 3D window manager. Design

The Series 9 is a beautifully crafted machine. It\’s made mostly from a metal called duralumin, which up until now has only been used in aircraft construction. Not only is it light, the Series 9 feels sturdier than the Air, especially if you pick it up by its corner. We also noted that the hinge is less fluid on the Series 9. You may not be able to open the lid with just one finger, but the display won\’t flop back when you carry it, either.

Unlike the Air, the Series 9 isn\’t all metal on the outside. Some pieces of the deck hp envy 17 battery and the base of the display connected to the hinge are high-grade, glossy plastic. It melds well with the duralumin style-wise, but is prone to fingerprint smudges in some areas.

Both notebooks are about the same size–12.9 x 8.9 x 0.62-0.64 inches (Series 9) and 12.8 x 8.9 x 0.11-0.68 inches (Air)–though Samsung managed to make its offering a bit slimmer at its thickest point while still adding a dash of flair. Unlike the Air, the edges don\’t taper in a straight line, but include a little arch hp g72 battery and curve reminiscent of the wave design found on the Samsung NF310 and SF510.

Under the hood, aesthetic similarities to the MacBook Air abound, including an island-style keyboard hp g62 battery and large touchpad, which might be mistaken for Apple\’s design work if they weren\’t in black. Though the design is minimalist, Samsung included a few extra touches, such as blue LED indicators in the keyboard and on the deck as well as the chrome-outlined power button on the upper right.

Beyond the actual notebook, Samsung also paid close attention to how the Series 9 is packaged. The box is also minimalist but elegant, right away giving owners the feeling they\’ve purchased something high-end. NAND Flash and Value

The SSD 320 is the first Intel drive to use 25-nanometer NAND Flash, a significant die shrink over the 34nm memory used in the X25-M. With the smaller dies, Intel saves money on production costs, savings the company says it is passing along to consumers VGP-BPS13 and OEMs.

The drive comes in capacities of 40, 80, 120, 160, 300, VGP-BPS13A/Q and 600GB with Intel prices of $89, $159, $209, $289, $529, and $1,069, respectively. Those prices are roughly in line with the street prices of competitors such as the OCZ Vertex 2 ($209 for the 120GB) and the Samsung 470 Series ($249 for 128GB, $499 for 256GB). However, if retailers offer any discounts off of Intel’s prices, the SSD 320 could be a huge bargain

Technology and Features

With the launch of the SSD 320, Intel has updated its controller, with the goal of dramatically improving performance, particularly write speeds. However, the drive does not take advantage of the new SATA 6Gb/s interface that just become available on notebooks for the first time with the release of Intel’s 2nd Generation Core Series processors VGP-BPS13A/B and chipsets in January 2011. This means that the SSD 320 will work with these newer notebooks, but it won’t achieve the groundbreaking speeds of Intel’s new SSD 510 (starting at $369 for 120GB). That drive is designed specifically for SATA 6Gb/s and promises speeds nearly twice those of the SSD 310.

In addition to faster performance, the SSD 310 offers improved security VGP-BPS13/B and reliability. Out of the box, the drive supports 128-bit AES encryption, allowing you to set a password for the drive that will prevent its data from being accessed if its ever stolen. It also keeps your data saved, even in the event that your computer loses power before it has a chance to shut down and clear the drive’s cache.

Synthetic Tests

To get a baseline idea of what to expect we ran the SSD 310 through CrystalDiskMark 3.1, a synthetic benchmark that measures theoretical read VGP-BPS13B/B and write performance. However, before testing, Intel warned us that a theoretical test such as CrystalDiskMark might not show off the drive’s best write performance because it doesn’t "exercise the device long enough to reach its steady state."

Verdict

The Intel SSD 320 returns Intel to its rightful place amongst the performance leaders in the mainstream SSD category. Though the drive trailed competitors from Samsung, OCZ, VGP-BPS13B/Q and Crucial on many of our tests, it was usually within just a few milliseconds of the leader. Whether you’re buying the drive as an upgrade or getting a brand new notebook with an Intel SSD 320 inside, you can buy with the confidence that that you’re getting a fast performer that’s comparable to the best SATA 3Gb/s drives on the market.

If your notebook is one of the new systems that has SATA 6Gb/s ports, you should definitely choose a drive like the Intel SSD 510 or OCZ Vertex 3 that takes full advanage of that interface. If you are shopping for a mainstream SSD upgrade, the Samsung 470 series offers slightly better overall performance, but the Intel SSD 320 should be near the top of your list because of its strong combination of security, reliability, VGP-BPS13A/S and performance.
